Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

1 Roast the Fries
Cut potatoes into 1/4" fries and pat dry.
Place fries, 4 tsp. olive oil, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of pepper on one prepared baking sheet. Massage oil and seasonings into fries. Spread into a single layer.Roast in hot oven until browned and tender, 35-40 minutes, tossing fries halfway through.Carefully remove from oven.While fries roast, continue recipe. -
2 Prepare the Ingredients
Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/4” slices.
Halve and peel onion. Slice halves into thin strips.Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. -
3 Toast the Rolls
Open rolls and spray cut-sides with cooking spray.
Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat. Working in batches if necessary, add rolls, cut-sides down, to hot, dry pan.Toast until slightly browned, 1-2 minutes per side.Transfer rolls to a clean work surface. Keep pan over medium heat; no need to wipe clean. -
4 Cook the Filling
Add 1 tsp. olive oil to hot pan.
Add Italian sausage, bell peppers, and onions. Stir occasionally until vegetables are tender and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.Stir in marinara until combined and heated through, 2-4 minutes.Remove from burner. -
5 Assemble and Roast Sandwiches and Finish Dish
Evenly divide filling between rolls and evenly top with cheese. Have a little sous chef around? With supervision, have them help add the cheese. Place sandwiches on second prepared baking sheet.
Roast in hot oven until cheese is melted, 3-5 minutes.Carefully remove from oven.Plate dish as pictured on front of card. Bon appétit!
