Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using diced chicken breasts, pat dry. Stir occasionally until chicken reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes.

  • If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Core tomatoes and cut into 1/2" dice.

    Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/4" dice.

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Cook the Tomatoes

    Place a large pot over medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add tomatoes and a pinch of salt and pepper to hot pot. Stir occasionally until tomatoes have softened, 3-5 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Transfer tomatoes to a bowl and set aside. Wipe pot clean and reserve.

    Cook the Sausage and Peppers

    Return pot used to cook tomatoes to medium heat. Add 2 tsp. olive oil and peppers to hot pot. Stir occasionally until peppers begin to brown, 3-5 minutes.

    Add Italian sausage and break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Add the Rice

    Carefully massage rice in bag to break up any clumps. Remove rice from packaging.

    Add rice, cream base, garlic salt, Asiago, half the Parmesan (reserve remaining for garnish), and 1/2 cup water to hot pot with sausage. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir occasionally until cheese is melted and sauce begins to thicken, 1-2 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    While risotto cooks, continue recipe.

    Toast Breadcrumbs and Finish Dish

    Combine panko, pesto and 2 tsp. olive oil on a microwave-safe plate and spread into an even layer. Microwave until toasted, 30-60 seconds, stirring once halfway through.

    Carefully remove from microwave.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping risotto with tomatoes and garnishing with pesto breadcrumbs and remaining Parmesan. Bon appétit!
