In 1941, the daughter of Germany's ambassador to Mexico stepped into a cantina in the dusty, sun-drenched town of Ensenada on the Baja peninsula. The bartender offered this VIP guest a new concoction he had been working on made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice served in a salted-rim glass. Since Margarita Henkel was the first to try it, the bartender decided to name it for her, and so begins the story of the refreshing, iconic cocktail this smoothie is based on.
