- 1 Large Non-Stick Pan
- 1 Colander/Strainer
Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F
Customize It Instructions

If using chicken breasts, pat dry. Cook until chicken reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes per side.

If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

If using petite scallops, pat dry. Let oil in pan heat, 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, cook undisturbed, 90 seconds. After 90 seconds, stir occasionally until scallops reach minimum internal temperature, 60-90 seconds. Scallops will vary in amount as they are portioned by weight. Don't worry, the sweet flavor and tender texture will be the same.

If using shrimp, pat dry. Cook until pink and shrimp reach minimum internal temperature, 2-3 minutes per side.

1 Cook the Rice
Bring a small pot with rice and 1 1/4 cups water to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until rice is tender, 15-18 minutes.Remove from burner and set aside.While rice cooks, continue recipe. -
2 Prepare the Ingredients
Drain and rinse beans in a colander/strainer.
Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/4" dice.Stem and coarsely chop thyme.Trim and thinly slice green onions, keeping white and green portions separate. -
3 Cook the Bell Peppers
Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.
Add bell peppers, white portions of green onions, and 1/4 tsp. salt to hot pan. Stir occasionally until peppers are tender, 4-6 minutes. -
4 Add the Ground Beef
Add ground beef to hot pan. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.
Drain any excess liquid from pan. Pan will be hot! Use caution. -
5 Add Beans and Sauce and Finish Dish
Add blackening seasoning and thyme to hot pan. Stir occasionally until combined, 1-2 minutes.
Add beans, BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, and 1/4 tsp. salt. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.Once simmering, stir occasionally until sauce has slightly thickened, 3-4 minutes.Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping rice with ground beef mixture. Garnish with green portions of green onions. Bon appétit!
