Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/2" dice.

    Drain and rinse kidney beans and black beans in a wire-mesh strainer.

    Trim and thinly slice green onions on an angle, keeping white and green portions separate.

    Cook the Ground Beef

    Place a large pot over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add ground beef, chili powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, and taco seasoning to hot pot. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-8 minutes.

    Carefully drain any excess grease from pot. Keep over medium-high heat.

    Add the Bell Peppers

    Stir bell peppers and white portions of green onions into hot pot.

    Stir occasionally until bell peppers begin to soften, 3-4 minutes.

    Add the Beans and Tomatoes

    Stir kidney beans, black beans, tomatoes, 1 1/2 cups water, and a pinch of salt into hot pot until combined. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes.

    If chili is too thick, add additional water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Remove from burner.

    Finish the Dish

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing with sour cream, cheese, and green portions of green onions. Bon appétit!
