Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

1 Cook the Pasta
Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.
Remove from burner. Reserve 1 cup pasta cooking water. Drain pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.While pasta cooks, continue recipe. -
2 Prepare the Ingredients
Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/4" dice.
Drain tofu. Line a plate with paper towels. Cut tofu into 1/2" planks widthwise. You should have 8 tofu planks total. Place on towel-lined plate. Top with more paper towels, then press gently but firmly to remove excess moisture. Season all over with half the garlic salt (reserve remaining for pasta).Evenly spread panko on a plate.In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch and 2 Tbsp. water.Working in batches if necessary, place tofu planks into cornstarch mixture and gently flip until coated on both sides. Place tofu onto panko and gently flip until coated on both sides, pressing gently to adhere. -
3 Cook the Tofu
Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 3 Tbsp. olive oil. Let heat, 3 minutes.
After 3 minutes, add tofu to hot pan. Cook undisturbed until deep golden-brown, 5-8 minutes per side.Don't rush cooking the tofu; it will need the complete cooking time for the correct crispness. Remove from burner. Transfer tofu to prepared baking sheet.While tofu cooks, continue recipe. -
4 Finish the Pasta
Return pot used to cook pasta to medium heat. Add pasta, 1/2 cup reserved pasta cooking water, bell peppers, half the marinara (reserve remaining for tofu), remaining garlic salt, a pinch of salt, and red pepper flakes (to taste) to hot pot. Bring to a simmer.
Once simmering, reduce heat to low. Simmer until sauce has thickened and bell peppers are tender, 4-6 minutes.Remove from burner. Stir in half the Parmesan (reserve remaining for garnish) until combined. Cover and set aside. If sauce is too thick, add additional reserved pasta cooking water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached. -
5 Broil Tofu and Finish Dish
Evenly top tofu with remaining marinara and mozzarella.
Broil under hot broiler until cheese is melted and golden-brown, 3-5 minutes.Don't text and broil! Keep an eye on oven as tofu may burn easily under broiler.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing pasta with remaining Parmesan. Bon appétit!
