Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, cook until meatballs reach minimum internal temperature, 10-12 minutes.

  • If using ground turkey, cook until meatballs reach minimum internal temperature, 11-13 minutes.

  • If using Impossible burger, cook until meatballs reach a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 10-12 minutes.

    Cook the Pasta

    Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 9-11 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Reserve 1/4 cup pasta cooking water. Drain in a colander and set aside.

    While pasta cooks, continue recipe.

    Start the Meatballs

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. Form sausage into 8 evenly-sized meatballs.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.

    Add meatballs to hot pan and roll occasionally until browned all over, 4-6 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Transfer meatballs to a plate and set aside. Meatballs will finish cooking in a later step. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.

    While meatballs brown, continue recipe.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Trim ends off celery and cut into 1/4" dice.

    Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice.

    Mince garlic.

    Make Sauce and Finish Meatballs

    Return pan used to sear meatballs to medium heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil. Add celery and onions to hot pan and stir occasionally until tender and lightly browned, 6-8 minutes.

    Add garlic and tomato puree and stir occasionally until combined, 1-2 minutes.

    Stir in marinara, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, and 1/2 cup water. Then add meatballs and cover. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir occasionally until sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 6-8 minutes.

    Add Pasta and Finish Dish

    Add pasta and butter to hot pan and gently stir until pasta is coated. If sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta cooking water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing pasta with cheese. Bon appétit!
