Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, follow same instructions.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Spray provided trays with cooking spray.

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. Break into bite-sized pieces.

    In one provided tray, combine sausage and diced peppers. Spread into an even layer and evenly top with 2 tsp. olive oil, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper.

    In second provided tray, combine orzo, 1 1/2 cups water, cream cheese, chicken base, buttermilk-dill seasoning, and garlic and parsley seasoning. Cover orzo tray with foil. Cream cheese will melt as meal bakes.

    Start the Meal

    Bake both trays (orzo covered, sausage mixture uncovered) in hot oven, 20 minutes.

    Carefully remove from oven.

    Break sausage into smaller pieces and drain any excess liquid. Sausage will be hot! Use a utensil.

    Stir orzo to combine and cover again with foil.

    Finish the Meal

    Bake both trays again (orzo covered, sausage and peppers uncovered) until orzo is thickened and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 12-15 minutes.

    Carefully remove both trays from oven. Uncover orzo tray and stir in 1/4 cup water.

    Stir butter into sausage mixture until melted and combined.

    To serve, top orzo with sausage mixture and garnish with feta. Bon appétit!
