Recipe Steps

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F
  1. 1

Start the Italian Sausage and Butternut Squash

Turn oven on to 425 degrees. Let preheat, at least 10 minutes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before cooking, and after handling raw meat and seafood. Remove all produce from any packaging or constraints, then thoroughly rinse and pat dry. Spray provided tray with cooking spray.

Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. Place sausage in provided tray and break into bite-sized pieces. Spread into an even layer.

Evenly top with butternut squash, garlic pepper, and a pinch of salt. Bake uncovered in hot oven until squash starts to soften, 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add the Broth

Carefully remove tray from oven. Add flour and stir until no dry flour remains.

Add cream base, demi-glace, corn, and 1/2 cup water. Stir to combine. Tray will be hot! Use a utensil.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meal

Bake again uncovered in hot oven until soup is bubbling, butternut squash is tender, and Italian sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 15-20 minutes.

While meal bakes, stem parsley and tear leaves.

Carefully remove tray from oven. Stir in butter (to taste) until melted and combined. Tray will be hot! Use a utensil.

To serve, garnish with parsley. Bon appétit!
