Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

Cook the Pasta
Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 11-13 minutes.
Remove from burner. Reserve 1 cup pasta cooking water. Drain in a colander and set aside. Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.While pasta cooks, continue recipe. -
Prepare the Ingredients
Cut broccoli into bite-sized pieces.
Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice. -
Cook the Vegetables
Return pot used to cook pasta to medium heat.
Add 4 tsp. olive oil, broccoli, a pinch of salt and pepper, onions, and 1/4 cup water to hot pot. Cover and cook until water is almost completely evaporated, 4-6 minutes. -
Cook the Sausage
Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.
Add Italian sausage to hot pot. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes. -
Add Sauce and Finish Dish
Add pasta, cream base, pesto, 3/4 the shredded cheese (reserve remaining for garnish), softened cream cheese, 1 cup reserved pasta cooking water, 1/4 tsp. salt, a pinch of pepper, and garlic salt to hot pot. Bring to a simmer.
Once simmering, remove from burner. Rest, 5 minutes.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing with remaining shredded cheese and crispy onions. Bon appétit!
