- 1 Colander/Strainer
Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

Cook the Pasta
Break pasta into large pieces using hands. Don't worry if pieces are uneven.
Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.Remove from burner. Reserve 3/4 cup pasta cooking water.Drain pasta in a colander/strainer, then briefly run under cold water. Set aside. Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.While pasta cooks, continue recipe. -
Prepare Ingredients and Make Ricotta Topping
Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice.
Mince garlic.In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, half the Italian seasoning (reserve remaining for sauce), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. -
Cook the Sausage and Vegetables
Return pot used to cook pasta to medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.
Add Italian sausage to hot pot. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-7 minutes.Add onions, garlic, and remaining Italian seasoning. Stir occasionally until onions are tender and garlic is fragrant, 2-3 minutes. -
Add the Sauce and Pasta
Add tomato puree to hot pot and stir constantly, 30 seconds.
Stir in marinara, reserved pasta cooking water, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper until combined.Add pasta and stir until coated, 30-60 seconds. -
Add Cheese and Finish Dish
Top evenly with mozzarella and dollops of ricotta topping.
Cover and cook undisturbed until mozzarella is melted, 3-4 minutes.Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card. Bon appétit!
