Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes. 

  • If using Italian sausage, remove from casing, if necessary. Break up sausage until no pink remains and sausage reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

    Cook the Pasta

    Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Reserve 1 cup pasta cooking water. Drain pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.

    While pasta cooks, continue recipe.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Cut mushrooms into 1/4" slices.

    Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice.

    Cook the Beef

    Return pot used to cook pasta to medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.

    Add ground beef, 1/2 tsp. salt, and onions to hot pot. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Drain excess liquid from pot. Mixture will be hot! Use a utensil.

    Add the Mushrooms

    Return pot to medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add mushrooms to hot pot and stir occasionally until browned, 4-6 minutes.

    Add Sauce and Pasta and Finish Dish

    Stir pasta, cream base, half the reserved pasta cooking water (reserve remaining for adjusting sauce, if necessary), garlic salt, mirepoix base, cream cheese, and a pinch of pepper into hot pot. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir occasionally until slightly thickened, 2-3 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Stir in mozzarella until combined.

    If sauce is too thick, add remaining pasta cooking water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached. Rest, 5 minutes.
