Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using Italian sausage, remove from casing, if necessary. Break up sausage until no pink remains and sausage reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

    Cook the Pasta

    Break pasta into large pieces. It's OK if pieces are not even.

    Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta cooking water. Drain pasta in a colander and briefly run under cold water. Set aside.

    Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.

    While pasta cooks, continue recipe.

    Prepare Ingredients and Make Ricotta Topping

    Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice.

    Mince garlic.

    In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, half the Italian seasoning (reserve remaining for sauce), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.

    Cook the Beef

    Return pot used to cook pasta to medium-high heat.

    Add ground beef, onions, and garlic to hot pot. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Drain any excess grease from pot, if desired.

    Add the Sauce and Pasta

    Add tomato puree to hot pot and stir to combine.

    Stir in garlic salt, remaining Italian seasoning, tomato sauce, and 1/4 cup reserved pasta cooking water until combined. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, add cooked pasta and stir until coated, 1-2 minutes.

    Reduce heat to medium.

    Add Ricotta Topping and Finish Dish

    Evenly top pasta with ricotta topping.

    Cover and cook until heated through, 2-3 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping pasta with Parmesan. Bon appétit!
