Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F
Customize It Instructions

If using Italian sausage, remove from casing, if necessary. Break up sausage until no pink remains and sausage reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

Cook the Pasta
Break pasta into large pieces. It's OK if pieces are not even.
Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.Remove from burner. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta cooking water. Drain pasta in a colander and briefly run under cold water. Set aside.Reserve pot; no need to wipe clean.While pasta cooks, continue recipe. -
Prepare Ingredients and Make Ricotta Topping
Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice.
Mince garlic.In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, half the Italian seasoning (reserve remaining for sauce), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside. -
Cook the Beef
Return pot used to cook pasta to medium-high heat.
Add ground beef, onions, and garlic to hot pot. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.Drain any excess grease from pot, if desired. -
Add the Sauce and Pasta
Add tomato puree to hot pot and stir to combine.
Stir in garlic salt, remaining Italian seasoning, tomato sauce, and 1/4 cup reserved pasta cooking water until combined. Bring to a simmer.Once simmering, add cooked pasta and stir until coated, 1-2 minutes.Reduce heat to medium. -
Add Ricotta Topping and Finish Dish
Evenly top pasta with ricotta topping.
Cover and cook until heated through, 2-3 minutes.Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping pasta with Parmesan. Bon appétit!
