Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using diced chicken breasts, pat dry. Stir occasionally until chicken reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes.

  • If using shrimp, pat dry. Cook until pink and shrimp reach minimum internal temperature, 2-3 minutes per side.

  • If using steak strips, pat dry, coarsely chop, then separate pieces. Stir occasionally until steak reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. Rest, 3 minutes.

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Drain beans.

    Cut lime into wedges.

Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" slices.

Halve poblano peppers lengthwise, seed, and cut into 1/4” strips. Poblano peppers can vary in spice level; most are mild, but a few can be quite hot. Wash hands and cutting board after prepping.

  2. 2

    Cook the Vegetables

Place a medium non-stick pan over medium heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.

Add onions, poblanos (to taste), and a pinch of salt to hot pan. Stir occasionally until tender and lightly browned, 6-8 minutes.

Stir in half the taco seasoning (reserve remaining for ground beef) and 1 Tbsp. water until combined.

Transfer vegetables to a plate and tent with foil. Keep pan over medium heat.

  3. 3

    Cook the Ground Beef

Add ground beef to hot pan used to cook vegetables. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

Carefully drain excess grease from pan, if desired. Stir in remaining taco seasoning, fiesta seasoning, salsa (to taste), beans, 1/4 tsp. salt, and a pinch of pepper until heated through, 3-5 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

While beef mixture cooks, continue recipe.

  4. 4

    Heat the Tortillas

Wrap tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave until warm, 30-60 seconds.

If tortillas come folded, keep folded.

    Carefully remove from microwave.

Alternatively, place a medium non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add tortillas, one at a time, to hot, dry pan. Heat undisturbed, 30-45 seconds per side. Remove from pan.

  5. 5

    Finish the Dish

Plate dish as pictured on front of card, filling tortillas with ground beef mixture, vegetables, and chipotle crema. Squeeze lime wedges over tacos to taste. Bon appétit!
