Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F
  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

Place sausage in one provided tray and break into smaller pieces. Add diced peppers and spread into an even layer. Top evenly with 2 tsp. olive oil.

Carefully massage rice in bag to break up any clumps. Remove rice from packaging. Combine rice, cream base, chicken base, butter, onion salt, and 3/4 cup water in second provided tray.

Stir to combine. Butter will melt as meal heats. Cover rice tray with foil.

  2. 2

    Start Meal and Add Sauce

Bake both trays (sausage uncovered, rice covered) in hot oven, 20 minutes.

Carefully remove sausage tray from oven. Sausage will finish cooking in a later step. Keep rice tray in oven.

Drain any excess liquid from tray. Break up sausage into smaller pieces. Stir in marinara until combined. Tray will be hot! Use a utensil.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meal

Bake again (sausage uncovered, rice covered) in hot oven until risotto is hot and thickened and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 13-18 minutes.

Carefully remove both trays from oven. Stir cheese into risotto until combined.

If risotto is too thick, add additional water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

To serve, top risotto with sausage mixture. Bon appétit!
