Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

    Start the Peppers and Sausage

    Spray provided trays with cooking spray.

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. Break up sausage into bite-sized pieces. Evenly divide sausage and diced peppers between both provided trays. Spread into an even layer.

    Top each tray with 2 tsp. olive oil, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper.

    Bake uncovered in hot oven, 15 minutes.

    Add the Orzo

    Carefully remove both trays from oven. Combine sausage and peppers into one tray.

    In now-empty tray, add orzo, cream cheese, chicken base, buttermilk-dill seasoning, and garlic and parsley seasoning. Stir to combine and cover with foil. Cream cheese will melt as meal bakes.

    Bake the Meal

    Bake both trays (orzo covered, sausage and peppers uncovered) in hot oven until orzo is heated through and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 15-20 minutes.

    Carefully remove both trays from oven. Uncover orzo tray. Stir butter into sausage and peppers until melted and combined.

    Stir 1/4 cup water into orzo until combined and creamy.

    To serve, top orzo with sausage and peppers and garnish with feta. Bon appétit!
