Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

    Cook the Sausage

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Add the Kale

    Add kale to hot pan and stir often until wilted, 2-4 minutes.

    Add tomatoes, half the Sicilian sauce (to taste; reserve remaining for risotto), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir occasionally until combined, 1-2 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    While sausage and kale cook, continue recipe.

    Start the Risotto

    Carefully massage rice in bag to break up any clumps and remove from packaging.

    Place a medium pot over medium heat.

    Add 1/2 cup water, chicken base, cream base, rice, and garlic salt to hot pot. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir often until rice is heated through, 3-5 minutes.

    Finish Risotto and Finish Dish

    Add 2/3 the cheese (reserve remaining for garnish) and remaining Sicilian sauce (to taste) to hot pot. Stir occasionally until melted and combined, 1-2 minutes.

    If too thick, add additional water, 1 tsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping risotto with sausage-kale mixture. Garnish with remaining cheese. Bon appétit!
